A Panel of Experts to Answer Your Gardening Questions

April 1 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 pm

Speakers:  Annette Chinuge, Harry Lewis and Guy Sternberg

As a garden club member eager to learn, you no doubt have had questions pop into your head about trees, flowers, or even native plants. Feel free to submit any question related to Horticulture in our Question Box or ask it of our experts at this informative panel discussion.

Annette Chinuge is the past president of the Illinois Native Plant Society and a retired science teacher whose subjects included general science, biology and chemistry. She spent her childhood in the Peoria area with pet snakes she called Mr. and Mrs. Hiss and an assortment of spiders and other insects. She loves all flora and fauna, and we all know she has a wonderful sense of humor.

Harry Lewis is beginning his 15th year as Horticulturist for the Illinois Governor’s Mansion. He has been an adjunct instructor at LLCC’s Horticulture department, led trips to P. Allen Smith’s Arkansas garden and Jon Carloftis in the
Lexington, Kentucky area. He manages the landscaping for Bank of Springfield locations and has served as garden center manager for Lowe’s and Green View Nursery.

Guy Sternberg and his wife, Edie, founded Starhill Forest Arboretum in 1976, home of the most comprehensive oak collection in America and the teaching arboretum of Illinois College. He leads an annual tree tour at Oak Ridge Cemetery and has written three reference books about native trees. He is involved in tree research and preservation nationwide.
